Just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful class today. It was a real eye-opener! The emails have been flying thick and fast tonight, between the members, all agreeing what a great day we had today, in every respect. Can't wait for your next lesson - you are a very talented tutor as well as a wonderful artist.

Hi Jan, I enjoyed the workshop and I learnt a lot out it, the other students were nice to work with and it was pleasant to see a wide range of topics. I have a drawing project that I have been working on for a number of years now and this will help me keep inspired.

I really enjoyed those four days at the workshop, everybody was so nice, and it really broadened the horizon for me. Your teaching is impeccable; I'm very honoured to have learned from you! Thanks again!

I’d like to thank you both for making today such a happy one for Fred.  He was very tired when he got home but he had a lovely day and couldn’t stop saying how kind you were.

NEXT TWO WORKSHOPS/EVENTS

Brisbane & Gympie Area

23-24/5

9.00am

Colour Theory and Colour Systems, Brisbane

WATERCOLOUR SOCIETY OF QLD
Forget everything you have learnt before about the colour wheel and learn why Cyan, Yellow and Magenta are the true primary pigments rather than Blue, Yellow and Red!
Mixing the right colour has always been one of the greatest challenges for artists. Stop struggling and learn how to make specific hues with Jan’s instruction using the CYM colour wheel and charts. These handy tools will be used for many years to come. All templates will be provided. Now is the time to finally have those references you always wanted but never got around to making yourself! Plus, you’ll learn how to mix common paint colours such as Indigo Blue, Hooker’s Green, and Alizarin etc. from just 3 primaries.

30-31/5

9.00am

Exploring Colour with Watercolour (CMY Colour Wheel), Glastonbury (near Gympie)

This hands-on watercolour workshop explores colour through the CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) colour wheel—an ideal system for painters who want clearer, cleaner mixes. You’ll learn how colours interact, how to mix and match hues with confidence, and how to avoid muddy results. Through guided exercises, we’ll break down colour mixing, temperature, value, and harmony, and compare different colour systems so you understand how and why they work. By the end of the session, you’ll have a practical colour wheel, a deeper understanding of your palette, and the confidence to make intentional colour choices in your watercolour paintings. Plus you will only need 3 tubes of paint to create any colour of your choosing!
