WHAT TO BRING
Paints: If you already own any ARTIST quality watercolours, please bring those. Otherwise, ask your art store to sell you the 3 primary colours in tubes. I suggest Musgrave Art & Stationery in Southport. They are familiar with the paints I use and recommend. They will last for many months of painting.
Paper: Only 100% cotton watercolour paper is suitable, preferably in 300gsm weight. Paper that is not marked as being 100% cotton is incredibly frustrating to paint on and you won't get the desired results. Common great quality brands are Arches, Saunders Waterford and Fabriano. You will need a pad or block at least A4 size. Or buy just one sheet to get started.
Brushes: I can sell you a set of watercolour 'rounds' for $5 during class or purchase your own. One fine brush and one larger is enough to get started. A larger 'wash' brush or 'hake' would serve you well if you intend to continue painting with watercolours.
Palette: I recommend a large plastic palette with a lid. It is best to have at least 12 wells to hold colour mixes.
Other necessities: A 2B or B pencil and a kneadable eraser. One sheet of graphite transfer paper. Tissues and an old hand towel or face cloth, plus 2 containers for water. (1kg honey or yogurt tubs are ideal.) A roll of masking tape, preferably Washi tape, (the painting section of hardware stores stocks this). A sturdy but lightweight board slightly larger than your paper would also be handy.
ALTERNATIVELY: Pay a materials fee and Jan will lend you everything you need for this lesson. Please add the $20 fee at checkout.
