Brolga St, Quilpie, QLD

Saturday to Sunday October 26-27, 2024

This watercolour workshop will concentrate on improving techniques vital to producing lovely floral paintings. Jan will share many tips to help you achieve better compositions, correct edges and no-fail colour mixing systems. Special attention will be paid to achieving beautiful but easy backgrounds! References to transfer will be provided to save time for painting and learning new skills. Suitable for all levels.

To book, please contact Jo Pegler: [email protected]

Bring these items if you already own them. Otherwise, some materials will be provided:

PAINTS: Any Artist quality watercolour paints you may already have. Include 3 primary colours if possible, preferably MaimeriBlu- Primary Red Magenta, Primary Yellow and Primary Blue Cyan.

Otherwise, bring Winsor & Newton- Winsor Lemon or Winsor Yellow, Winsor Blue (Red Shade), Permanent Rose. Or Daniel Smith- Phthalo Blue (Green Shade), Hansa Yellow Medium, Quinacridone Rose. Or Holbein- Permanent Yellow Light or Imidazolone Yellow, Phthalo Blue Yellow Shade, Quinacridone Red. Or Art Spectrum - Spectrum Yellow, Phthalo Blue, Permanent Rose.

Any of the above paints can be a mix of brands.

PAPER: 300gsm artist quality 100% cotton watercolour paper, Medium or Rough. One full sheet is large enough or bring a pad or block in at least A4 size. (Jan always recommends a block as the paper stays stretched. Please do not bring student quality cellulose paper, it just doesn’t work well!) A3 sheets will available to purchase for $2.50 each.

BRUSHES: Watercolour paint brushes – include a large size round, a smaller round and any that come to a fine point. A larger brush will be needed for backgrounds.

PALETTE: The large plastic palettes with lots of wells and a lid are my recommendation; otherwise bring what you own. Even ice-cube trays will do for puddles of colour, but you’ll need something with a larger flat surface for mixing paint on.

OTHER: 2 containers for water. * Old hand towel or absorbent cloth. *Tissues. * A pipette or medicine dropper. (Jan will bring extra) *Masking tape *B or 2B pencil, and a kneadable eraser. One sheet of graphite transfer paper (Jan will bring some for sale) *A pen and paper for writing notes. * A board larger than your paper and something to prop up one end so you can work at an angle.

NOTE: QCS has some materials, but please bring the items in the OTHER list (above), along with any materials you already own.
