  • Are you wanting a free tutorial on using colour pencils for a project?
  • Need something quick to produce and with easy to follow instructions?
  • Want something that only uses 4 different pencils with options for a variety of brands?
  • Desire a professional photographic reference to copy and a line drawing to easily transfer?
  • Want to learn more about using a limited palette and complementary colours?
  • Knowing you can trust that the instructor has plenty of experience?

Then look no further!

I have created this tutorial for beginners and anyone desiring a simple but elegant project to work on that focuses on using two sets of complementary colours.
Progress photos are included in this 7-page step-by-step guide.

This project has been used by students in my art workshops, and the results have been amazing.

The only materials you'll need are 4 specific colour pencils, an A4 piece of sturdy paper suitable for colour pencil application and a pencil sharpener.

You may download the file as many times as you need, but due to my copyright, it can only be used for personal use and not sold, copied or published elsewhere. Thanks.

This demonstration uses the following Faber-Castell Polychromos colour pencils which are listed in bold on the left. They can be substituted with the watercolour Albrecht Durer pencils as they have the same colours and matching names. Otherwise, you can use other brands with these closest matching colours:

Faber-Castell: Or Prismacolor Or Derwent Artists   Or Luminance

Dark Indigo     Indigo          Blue Grey           Dark Indigo

Burnt Ochre   Burnt Ochre     Terracotta      Burnt Ochre 50%

Manganese Violet Dark Purple  Imperial Purple     Quin. Purple

Earth Green Yellowish Limepeel  Olive Green       Olive Yellow

OR any dark greyish blue, burnt orange, reddish violet and yellowish olive green.

To see other complementary colour combinations for both the Faber-Castell and Prismacolor pencils, purchase my Practical Guide books HERE.

Please Note: I have another free tutorial designed for the Faber-Castell colour pencils which will be available soon.

Enjoy your time creating and colouring!
