Exploring Colour with Watercolour (CMY Colour Wheel), Glastonbury, May
30-31 May
Glastonbury Hall
1329 Glastonbury Rd,
Glastonbury (near Gympie), QLD 4570
9am-3.30pm each day
This hands-on watercolour workshop explores colour through the CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) colour wheel—an ideal system for painters who want clearer, cleaner mixes. You’ll learn how colours interact, how to mix and match hues with confidence, and how to avoid muddy results. Through guided exercises, we’ll break down colour mixing, temperature, value, and harmony, and compare different colour systems so you understand how and why they work. By the end of the session, you’ll have a practical colour wheel, a deeper understanding of your palette, and the confidence to make intentional colour choices in your watercolour paintings. Plus you will only need 3 tubes of paint to create any colour of your choosing!
Suitable for beginners and improvers alike.
Morning and afternoon tea is complementary. Byo lunch. Refrigerator, microwave and stove is available. The hall has a ramp and inside bathrooms.
FEE: $170 for the whole weekend.
The link to book is HERE through Glastonbury Hall Assoc.
Please don't use the shopping cart below. Thanks!
PAINTS: Artist quality watercolour paints. You will need 3 new tubes (12-15 ml or larger size) of primary colours:
MaimeriBlu- Primary Red Magenta, Primary Yellow and Primary Blue Cyan.
Or Winsor & Newton- Winsor Lemon or Winsor Yellow, Winsor Blue (Red Shade), Permanent Rose. Or Daniel Smith- Phthalo Blue (Green Shade), Hansa Yellow Medium, Quinacridone Rose. PAPER: 300gsm artist quality 100% cotton watercolour paper, Medium or Rough. One full sheet is large enough, or bring a pad or block in at least A4 size. (Jan always recommends a block as the paper stays stretched. Please do not bring student quality cellulose paper, it just doesn’t work well!)
BRUSHES: Watercolour paint brushes – include a large size round, a smaller round and a small flat
PALETTE: It is very important to bring a palette with at least 12 empty wells (you will be creating colours to put in these) and plenty of space for mixing puddles of paint.
OTHER: 2 containers for water. * Old hand towel or absorbent cloth. *Tissues. * A pipette or medicine dropper. (Jan will bring extra if she can find them) *Masking tape *B or 2B pencil, a kneadable eraser and a ruler. * A compass if you own one (for drawing circles.) * One sheet of graphite transfer paper (Jan will bring some for sale) *A pen and paper for writing notes. * A board larger than your paper and something to prop up one end so you can work at an angle.
