Monday July 17

This full day workshop is held in conjunction with the Gympie Region Studio Trails.

Immerse yourself in a day of painting with watercolours, inks and other media in an experimental style, using nature and landscapes as our inspiration. BYO paints and equipment for $130 or beginners can use Jan's supplies for the $150 price. You will leave with a range of paintings and new skills after learning from a sought-after, very experienced tutor.

This workshop is held in Jan's home studio. It has air-conditioning/heating with good light and comfortable chairs.

Morning and afternoon tea supplied, byo lunch. There is a refrigerator and a microwave available to use. A bathroom is attached to the studio and there are no stairs.

Please contact Jan before booking to check on availability. Limited to 6 participants!

What to Bring:

Paints:

A range of professional quality watercolours and a large palette with plenty of room for mixing big washes. Include colours that granulate, if possible. Daniel Smith watercolours are especially effective.

Inks:

Acrylic pigment inks (not ‘drawing inks’ ) in as many colours as you like, or a set of 3 primary colours and white. Opaque colours are ideal for the methods in this workshop. Recommended brands are Liquitex, FW, Amsterdam, Golden, or Art Spectrum. Extra colours can be mixed from the 3 primaries and decanted into dropper bottles beforehand. These are available from discount stores.

Jan will also share some of her violet and orange inks.

Brushes:

A variety of watercolour brushes in different sizes, including a large wash brush or hake and a rigger (for long lines).

Paper:

100% cotton watercolour paper, 300gsm in either Medium or Rough texture, at least A3 size. You will be working on 3 or 4 pieces or more at the same time.

Other basics:

GRANULATION MEDIUM – Usually available from art stores that sell any watercolour mediums. This is essential as it provides a lot of the unique texture you’ll be working with.

2 water pots, old towel or rags, tissues, a board larger than your paper, masking tape. 2 pipettes or medicine droppers.  Nib pen if you own one or waterproof felt tip pen- black and/or brown.

Stationery: Pen and paper for writing notes.
