SANDY (Terek Sandpiper)
Australian Fauna Series
Acrylic paint on cradled wood board. 45w x 30h cms (18" x 12")
Original design and painting by Jan Lawnikanis.
Made with a matching shorebird, WHIMMY.
Terek Sandpipers migrate to Australia after flying all the way from places such as Russia and Finland. They are not technically Australian fauna but I have included it in the series. It was painted for an exhibition to highlight the importance of keeping shoreline areas protected in Brisbane as necessary feeding grounds for a multitude of waders.
This artwork has been triple primed with gesso under at least 3 layers of paint. The raw wood on the back has been sealed and the painting finished with two coats of satin varnish.
Ready to hang with cord and d-rings attached on the back.
